Coriander
Coriander has always been the quiet one in the spice box — unassuming, delicate, yet impossible to ignore once it touches the food
As a child, I barely noticed its subtle aroma, overshadowed by the fiercer scents of chili or turmeric
But now, every time I crush a handful of fresh coriander leaves, I am reminded of balance both in cooking and in life
I remember a festive day when I had eaten far too much rich food, and my stomach felt heavy, my mind clouded
My mother handed me a small glass of coriander water — just crushed leaves in cool water or if the leaves not available then a teaspoon of coriander seeds boiled in water
I drank slowly, and almost immediately, a gentle lightness returned as if the leaves had absorbed the excess and restored harmony
That day, I learned that healing does not always shout, it sometimes whispers
Coriander, in Ayurveda, is a cooling herb which balances the pitta and vata, thus soothing the digestive system and calming the excess heat in the body
But beyond the physical, it teaches a spiritual lesson — gentleness restores equilibrium
Life will toss storms, arguments and excesses in our path, but the small and quiet practices — a sip of water, a mindful breath or a handful of herbs can bring the mind and body back to center
In my kitchen, coriander is more than a garnish. It is the green thread that ties a meal together, softening strong flavors, enhancing the others without demanding attention
I have come to see it as a reminder of humility and harmony — that real balance often comes not from overpowerin, but from supporting, from blending, from quiet presence

Even today, when I sprinkle fresh coriander over dal or soup, I pause for a moment to inhale its scent
It grounds me. It reminds me to breathe, to release excess tension and to find ease in simplicity
Reflection on coriander :
Coriander teaches that balance is gentle, not forceful
In life, as in cooking, harmony often arrives through subtlety — a quiet touch, a thoughtful pause, a green leaf lifting heaviness with grace
