Signs of Menopause
Tales of a Homemaker in the Menopause series– Post 1
It was an ordinary morning — the kind that starts with chai, a mental to-do list, and a loud “Where’s my dupatta?” echoing through the house
I was halfway to the temple when I heard the security guard chuckling.
“Madam… chappal?” he said, pointing gently at my bare feet
And there I stood — gloriously sandal-less, holding my pooja thali with full devotion but zero footwear
If enlightenment had a look, that was it
I wanted to say, “Oh, I’m practising detachment,” but honestly, I had just forgotten. Again
The Mystery of the Missing Memory
Lately, my memory behaves like that stubborn old pressure cooker — works fine some days, refuses to whistle on others
Keys, spectacles, phone all seem to be playing hide-and-seek
At first, I blamed overwork, the maid’s leave, my son’s projects, and my husband’s eternal question, “What’s for dinner?”
But then it hit me maybe it’s not the house. Maybe it’s me
Could this be… signs of menopause?
Hormones on Holiday – signs of menopause
Nobody warned us that one day our own body would start running its own secret experiment
The same body that once remembered every grocery item and child’s school event suddenly forgets whether salt went into the sambar
Some call it “brain fog.” I call it “cloudy with a chance of madness.”
And of course, the family has noticed
My son says, “Amma, you’re so forgetful these days.”
I tell her, “That’s experience. I’m just prioritising peace over perfection.”
(Also, I genuinely forgot what we were talking about.)

The Homemaker’s Remedy Box on the signs of menopause
Now, I could panic and Google ten thousand articles or I could return to what my mother always said:
“Your mind needs oiling, just like your joints.”
So here’s my new little ritual:
oiling on my pressure points on the face and hands and legs just randomly… various yoga gurus on social media can help you with this
A few minutes of Nadi Shodhana pranayama — alternate nostril breathing to balance those flying hormones
And a handwritten list of tasks because let’s face it, if it’s not written down, it’s gone
Forgetting is just the body saying, “Slow down, woman. You’ve been multitasking for decades.”
The Laughing Lesson on the signs of menopause
Menopause is a strange roommate — she hides your chappals but teaches you patience
She blurs your memory but sharpens your humour
She slows your body just enough for your soul to finally catch up
So now when I forget something, I just smile and say,
“See? Even my mind needed a coffee break.”
