Chana
A Story, A Seed, A Series from My Kitchen
Long before chickpeas or chana were roasted in steel pans or soaked in glass bowls…
They were said to travel in the pockets of sages
A small legend from the old stories …
Hanuman and Roasted Chana (Bajrang Bali’s Favorite Offering)
In many parts of India, roasted chana (bhuna chana) with jaggery is considered a classic offering to Lord Hanuman
It is said that during his long journeys (especially while searching for Sita and later during the war), Hanuman needed food that was:
light to carry
high in strength
did not spoil quickly
So devotees began offering roasted chickpeas because they symbolized:
✅ strength
✅ endurance
✅ humility (simple food)
✅ discipline (no luxury)
Even today, in many Hanuman temples, prasad is:
chana + gud/jaggery
Why Chickpeas Still Matter (More Than Ever)
In our modern kitchens, chickpeas don’t arrive with stories
They arrive in plastic packets
Yet they still carry:
Protein for tired bodies
Fiber for restless minds
Warmth for anxious hearts
And patience… because chana teaches us to wait (soaking, boiling, cooking slowly)
In a world rushing for instant meals…
Chana whispers:
“Slow down. I will nourish you properly.”

A Gentle Thought
In Indian philosophy, anna (food) is considered sacred
Not because it is fancy…
But because it sustains life
If rice is comfort,
and milk is tenderness,
then chickpeas are quiet courage
The strength that doesn’t shout
The fullness that doesn’t show off
Let Me Ask You…
(Answer honestly. No one is watching.)
When was the last time you cooked something slowly… without scrolling your phone?
Do you eat to fill your stomach… or to care for your body?
Have you ever noticed how simple foods keep us strong longer than fancy ones?
What would change if your meals became a small daily ritual instead of a rushed task?
