HOMEMADE DISHWASH LIQUID
How to Make Easy Natural homemade Dishwash Liquid at Home
As someone who loves natural, homemade solutions, I recently experimented with making my own dishwash liquid.
After trying several methods, I finally found a recipe that works beautifully. I’ve been using it ever since, and I’m excited to share it with you! It’s cost-effective, safe for your health, and eco-friendly.
Let’s dive into it!
Ingredients for the homemade Dishwash Liquid
Ingredient | Purpose | Where to Buy |
---|---|---|
Soap nuts (Reetha) | Natural soap with cleansing properties (Saponin) | Available online (SLF brand is great) |
Lemon/Orange Peels | Adds fragrance and extra cleaning power | Collect and dry at home |
Sea Salt | Acts as a preservative | Grocery stores/online |
White Vinegar | Cleaning agent and preservative | Grocery stores/online |
Step-by-Step Procedure to Make homemade Dishwash Liquid
1. Soak the Soap Nuts and the citric peels
Soak 10-12 soap nuts overnight in water. This softens them for better extraction

Boil with Peels
The next day, boil the soaked soap nuts with 10-15 lemon or orange peels for 20-25 minutes. This will extract the cleaning power from both the soap nuts and citrus peels

Cool and Grind
Let the mixture cool, then grind it in a blender. If the mixture seems too thick, add a little water
Strain and Mix
Strain the mixture to remove solid bits. Add 1 small bowl of white vinegar and 1 bowl of sea salt. Mix thoroughly
Cook the Mixture
Cook this mixture for an additional 10-12 minutes to ensure it blends well and thickens slightly
Transfer to Bottles

Let it cool completely and transfer to bottles for storage
And voilà! Your natural dishwashing liquid is ready for use
Why These Ingredients?
Ingredient | Function |
---|---|
Soap Nuts (Reetha) | Contain saponins, which act like soap and have great cleaning properties while being gentle on skin |
Lemon/Orange Peels | Add a fresh, natural scent and some extra cleaning power, thanks to citric acid |
White Vinegar | A natural cleaner and preservative that helps cut through grease |
Sea Salt | Works as a preservative and mildly abrasive cleaning agent |
How to Use the Dishwash Liquid
This dishwash liquid doesn’t foam like conventional detergents, but don’t let that fool you—it cleans just as effectively!
For dishwashing, dilute the liquid:
Take about ¼ of the homemade liquid in a 1-liter bottle, and fill the rest with water
If you prefer more foam, you can add a spoonful of any mild liquid soap, though this is entirely optional
This mixture works wonderfully for cleaning dishes, as well as wiping down kitchen counters and stovetops. The lemon, vinegar, and soap nuts cut through grease and grime effectively
