the origin of salsa through a mythological tale
there’s an original mythological tale blending Mesoamerican and the divine elements
Here’s a unique mythological story about the origin of salsa:
Long ago, in the land of the sun, the gods from heaven watched over their people on the earth and ensured that they had the means to survive
The great god Xiuhtecuhtli, the god of fire, and Chicomecóatl, the goddess of maize and nourishment, worked together to provide the people with corn, beans, and other staples
One day, a young mortal woman named Itzpapalotl, known for her wisdom and love for cooking, climbed the sacred mountain to offer her prayers.
She spoke to the gods:
“Great ones, you have given us food, gratitude, but it is dull and plain. please provide us with meals that bring us joy and excitement as well as strength”
Hearing her plea, Xiuhtecuhtli, the god of fire, smiled
He reached out to his divine flames and plucked three glowing embers and scattered them across the land.
Wherever they landed, the first chilli peppers grew, red and fiery like the god’s own flames
Chicomecóatl, moved by the woman’s devotion, decided to add her own blessing
From her hand, the earth bloomed with tomatoes, bright and ripe, bursting with the sun’s warmth.
Then, from the rivers, she called upon cilantro and onions which was fragrant and fresh like the breath of the wind
Itzpapalotl happily gathered all these divine gifts, crushed them together with a stone, and mixed them into a vibrant and a fiery sauce
When the people on earth tasted it, they rejoiced with joy—the food now had life, fire, and spirit!
The gods laughed in delight, for the people had been given not just sustenance, but flavor, passion, and the heat of the gods themselves
Thus, was the birth of salsa —a sacred gift of fire and the earth, meant to awaken the soul with every bite
To this day, every time salsa is made, it carries the essence of the gods’ blessings, blending heat, life, and the joy of food
So let’s grab your apron, and let’s dive into this zesty delight
Ingredients that You require for the homemade salsa
Garlic – 7 to 8 cloves, finely chopped (because garlic makes everything better for the recipe!)

Tomatoes – 3 ripe ones (full of flavors and for that juicyness and tangy taste!)

Til oil (Sesame oil) – 2 to 3 tablespoons (adds a lovely nutty aroma)

Salt – To taste (because bland salsa won’t do!)
Green chillies – 2 to 3, finely chopped (spice lovers, feel free to add more!)

Red chilli powder – ½ tablespoon (for an extra kick and color)

Onions – 2, finely chopped (adds that perfect crunch !)

Coriander leaves – 1 handful, chopped (because fresh herbs make a whole of difference)

Lemon juice – Half (for that zesty balance!)

let's start with the Making of the Perfect Homemade Salsa
firstly Chop the garlic into fine pieces
secondly Cut the tomatoes in half and scoop out the seeds (this keeps the salsa from getting too watery)
now Heat sesame or til oil in a pan on a low to medium flame
Add in the chopped garlic, then place the tomato halves cut-side down (skin side up) into the pan
Lower the flame sprinkle salt over it, then add in the finely chopped green chillies, and red chilli powder
Cover and let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes. This allows the tomatoes to soften beautifully
Turn off the flame, uncover the pan, and gently remove the tomato skins with a fork since it will be hot
then Use a big spoon or a masher to mash the tomatoes into a chunky consistency to get out all the juices from the tomatoes
add in the finely chopped onions and coriander leaves, mix well, and cover for another 5 minutes so that all the flavours gets mixed well in the steam
Open the lid, transfer the salsa into a bowl, squeeze fresh lemon juice, and mix well
Voila Your delicious homemade salsa is now ready to be served
