Conversations with lord Krishna – Episode 9:
Episode 9 of Conversations with Krishna: A question that touches the heart of many —
“Krishna, How Do I Find Purpose in My Life?”
In this episode, lord Krishna reveals that true purpose is not something to be found, but something to be realized within
Me: lord Krishna, I feel like I’m drifting. I don’t know what my purpose is and it’s unsettling. How do I find the purpose of my life?
lord Krishna (with a calm smile): The question is not “How do you find purpose?” but “How do you align with your true nature?”
Purpose is not an external destination; it is the inner calling that arises when you live in alignment with your soul
“Your dharma is your path. Follow it, and you will find fulfillment.” (Gita 3.35)
śhreyān swa-dharmo viguṇaḥ para-dharmāt sv-anuṣhṭhitāt
swa-dharme nidhanaṁ śhreyaḥ para-dharmo bhayāvahaḥ
BG 3.35: It is far better to perform one’s natural prescribed duty, though tinged with faults, than to perform another’s prescribed duty, though perfectly. In fact, it is preferable to die in the discharge of one’s duty, than to follow the path of another, which is fraught with danger
meaning…
It is more enjoyable to be ourselves than to pretend to be someone else. The duties born of our nature can be easily performed with stability of mind
The duties of others may seem attractive from a distance and we may think of switching, but that is a risky thing to do. If they conflict with our nature, they will create disharmony in our senses, mind, and intellect
Me: But I feel like I am searching for something outside myself. Like there’s a specific thing I need to do or I am not doing in life that is right
lord Krishna: That is the illusion of the ego — it believes purpose is a specific goal to be achieved. But true purpose is not something you do; it is something you are
“You have the right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions.” (Gita 2.47)
karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo ’stvakarmaṇi
BG 2.47: You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction
meaning….
The verse gives four instructions regarding the science of work:
1) Do your duty, but do not concern yourself with the results.
2) The fruits of your actions are not for your enjoyment.
3) Even while working, give up the pride of doership.
4) Do not be attached to inaction

Me: So, if it’s not something I do, then what is it?
lord Krishna: Purpose is realized when you act with integrity, in service to others, and in harmony with your inner truth. It is about living in devotion to your highest self
When you align with your dharma — your true nature — everything you do becomes purposeful
Me: But how do I know what my dharma is?
lord Krishna: Your dharma is the unique expression of the divine within you. It is not a job or role; it is your soul’s calling
You find it through self-awareness, through actions that resonate with your heart
“Whatever your heart desires, act with devotion and faith, and the universe will guide you.” (Gita 9.22)
ananyāśh chintayanto māṁ ye janāḥ paryupāsate
teṣhāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ yoga-kṣhemaṁ vahāmyaham
BG 9.22: There are those who always think of Me and engage in exclusive devotion to Me. To them, whose minds are always absorbed in Me, I provide what they lack and preserve what they already possess
meaning…
As it occurs in the middle of the Gita, we may describe it as the most precious gem in the Gita-diamond-garland. This is the Lord’s promise of protection for the devotee. He takes upon Himself the responsibility of the devotee, who is ever united with Him
Nothing can cause fear to the true devotee about his welfare, as the Lord Himself has taken over the entire responsibility
Let him be true to Him, and the never-failing hand of God is always there to protect him. The Lord knows full well that His devotees have given their all to Him, and have nothing of their own. Such things as the devotee needs, are supplied by the Lord Himself, under all circumstances
Me: That makes sense, but what if I still feel lost, unsure of what I’m meant to do?
lord Krishna: Even in moments of uncertainty, know that your soul is always guiding you. Purpose often reveals itself when you stop chasing and start listening
“When you meditate upon me, surrendering all your actions, I will take care of everything.” (Gita 9.22)
Me: So, I don’t have to find purpose. I just need to live true to who I am, and it will unfold?
lord Krishna: Yes. Purpose flows naturally when you stop trying to control the outcome and allow yourself to be guided by love, devotion, and truth
“The soul is eternal and cannot be destroyed. Align your actions with your soul, and you will always know your purpose.”
Me (feeling peaceful): So, it’s less about searching, and more about being… true
lord Krishna: Exactly. Be true to yourself, to your dharma, and the purpose of your life will naturally emerge
