Conversations with lord Krishna – Episode 5:
“Krishna, What’s the Point of All This?”
A soul-deep question — perhaps the most honest of all — “What’s the point of all this?”
Krishna responds not with a quick fix, but with timeless truth about life’s purpose, illusion, and the eternal Self
Me: lord Krishna… what’s the point of all this?
Waking up, working, worrying, trying, struggling… again and again. What are we even doing here?
lord Krishna (softly): You are remembering
Me: Remembering what?
lord Krishna: That you are not just this body. Not just this job, this name, this fear. You are eternal
“As the soul passes through childhood, youth, and old age in this body, so it passes into another body. The wise are not deluded by this.” (Gita 2.13)
dehino ’smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā
tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati
BG 2.13: Just as boyhood, youth and old age are attributed to the soul through this body, even so it attains another body. the wise man does not get deluded by this
meaning…
It is made clear that these changes affect the body and not the Atma
When from boyhood one passes to youth and from youth to age, he does not grieve
No one grieves when the seed dies as it is giving birth to the plant. And so, the Lord questions why one should grieve when the body falls and another is taken up by the individual being
The wise who know the secret remain firm when these changes overtake the body
It should however be remembered that the Jnani whose ‘karmic’ force is already exhausted has no need to take another body. The common man is subject to the law of rebirth till the last when he too becomes free

Cycle of the body :
Boyhood to Youth to Old Age to Rebirth
The cycle rotates inevitably so long as the karma force works. When it is destroyed by knowledge, the man is freed from the cycle of birth and death. This is liberation (Moksha)
Me: But it all feels so heavy. The world is full of pain, comparison, exhaustion. Why did we come here, then?
lord Krishna: To grow. To burn away the false. To play
This life is not punishment. It is practice
Me: Practice for what?
lord Krishna: For returning to your true Self
“The soul is never born, nor does it die. It is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and primeval.” (Gita 2.20)
na jāyate mriyate vā kadāchin
nāyaṁ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ
ajo nityaḥ śhāśhvato ’yaṁ purāṇo
na hanyate hanyamāne śharīre
the soul is never born, nor it ever dies; nor does it become on being born. for, it is unborn, eternal, everlasting and primeval; even though the body is slain, the soul is not
meaning…
“Existence in the womb, birth, growth, procreation, diminution, and death.” These are transformations of the body, not of the self. What we call as death is merely the destruction of the body, but the immortal self remains unaffected by all bodily changes
The disturbance of the storm clouds does not affect the sun or the sky through which they pass
Therefore man should not identify himself with the foul perishable body and the ever-functioning mind but should hold on to his identity with the Self
Supreme joy and courage are realised by the wise who are one with Atma. The fear of death is at once driven off by the knowledge that he is the immortal Atma
Me: But we forget. I forget. Every day
lord Krishna: Yes. That’s Maya the illusion
The world pulls you into roles, identities and rewards. But even forgetting is part of the journey. Each return to awareness that strengthens the soul
Me: So all this… isn’t meaningless?
lord Krishna: No. It is a classroom for the soul
What you learn in silence, in surrender and in stillness .. that’s the real treasure
“One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is truly wise.” (Gita 4.18)
karmaṇyakarma yaḥ paśhyed akarmaṇi cha karma yaḥ
sa buddhimān manuṣhyeṣhu sa yuktaḥ kṛitsna-karma-kṛit
he who sees inaction in action and action in inaction, is wise among men; he is a yogi, who has performed all actions
meaning..
Let us take the illustration of a mirror. Various objects and various forms of action are reflected in it constantly, and yet the mirror is not tainted in any way; it remains clear and pure
Even so, the Jnani knows that he is the all-pervading Self and in that Self all actions of the universe are taking place just like those reflected in the mirror. Thus we find that several sages and great men have done great good to mankind through detached and desireless action
Their action, from this point of view, is no action at all so far as they are concerned, as they have entered the Self – state beyond the physical and mental planes
Exactly opposite to these wise men are the idlers who apparently do not do any work but are constantly in a state of action. The idlers refuse to do any work; they are too lazy or too weak in body to perform any work
The body is after all an external instrument. The operator is the mind. It is here that detachment should be cultivated
The ideal man is he who, in the midst of the greatest silence and solitude, finds the intensest activity, and in the midst of the intensest activity finds the silence and solitude of the desert
He has learnt the secret of restraint, he has controlled himself. He goes through the streets of a big city with all its traffic and his mind is as calm as if he were in a cave, where not a sound could reach him; and he is intensely working all the time
That is the ideal of karma-yoga, and if you have attained to that you have really learnt the secret of work
Me: I just want peace
lord Krishna: Then stop chasing. Be still
Peace doesn’t arrive after everything is done. It begins when you stop believing you are what you do
Me (quietly): Then… I’m more than my struggle?
lord Krishna: Infinitely more. You are the light playing in form. You are the sky not the storm
