Conversations with lord Krishna – Episode 7:
Episode 7: “Krishna, I Feel Lonely. Where Do I Find Connection?”
Episode 7 of Conversations with Krishna: A profound conversation on loneliness and connection, which many people struggle with in today’s world. Krishna provides guidance on finding the deeper connection that transcends external circumstances
Me: lord Krishna, I don’t know how to explain it. I feel… lonely. Surrounded by people, but still, there’s this emptiness inside. Where do I find true connection?
lord Krishna (looking compassionate): Ah, my friend. You are looking outside when the connection you seek is within
Me: What do you mean?
lord Krishna: You are looking for completion in others. But no one can complete you, except yourself
“The soul is neither born, nor does it die, nor does it ever undergo birth or death. It is eternal.” (Gita 2.20)
You are already whole. The feeling of loneliness comes when you forget your true nature
na jāyate mriyate vā kadāchin
nāyaṁ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ
ajo nityaḥ śhāśhvato ’yaṁ purāṇo
na hanyate hanyamāne śharīre
BG 2.20: the soul is never born, nor it dies; nor does it become on being born. for, it is unborn, eternal, everlasting and primeval; even though the body is slain, the soul is not
meaning…
Though the body is destroyed, yet the all-pervading Atma never dies. It shows that Atma remains only as a witness to the modifications of the body like birth, youth, and death, and of the mind in the form of pain and pleasure
Me: But I don’t feel whole. I feel disconnected, like something’s missing
lord Krishna: That’s the illusion of separation. The body, the mind, the ego — all of these create a sense of isolation. But in truth, you are connected to all that is
“I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures.” (Gita 10.20)
aham ātmā guḍākeśha sarva-bhūtāśhaya-sthitaḥ
aham ādiśh cha madhyaṁ cha bhūtānām anta eva cha
BG 10.20: arjuna, i am the universal self seated in the hearts of all beings; so, i alone am the beginning, the middle and also the end of all beings
meaning…
The Pratyagatma seated in the heart of every being is the Lord Himself. As Atma, he is the eternal witness (Sakshi) of the functions of the body, mind, and buddhi (reason). Atma, the witness is no other than Jivatma (Pratyagatma) who is no other than Paramatma
All ideas of littleness and separateness are mere superstitions and hallucinations. They should be rejected once and for all, and the Divinity of the Self should be clearly understood, firmly held, and definitely realised
Me: So, the loneliness comes from forgetting that connection?
lord Krishna: Yes. And seeking in the external what can only be found internally. True connection is not about being with others — it is about being one with yourself, and through that, recognizing the divinity in others
“When you see the same God in all beings, you will find true connection.”
Me: How do I start finding that?
lord Krishna: By turning inward. The quiet heart knows its wholeness
“A person who is detached from external desires and connected to the inner self finds fulfillment.” (Gita 5.21)

bāhya-sparśheṣhvasaktātmā vindatyātmani yat sukham
sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā sukham akṣhayam aśhnute
BG 5.21: he whose mind remains unattached to sense objects, derives through meditation the sattvika joy which dwells in the mind; then that yogi, having completely identified himself through meditation with brahma, enjoys eternal bliss
meaning…
The wise man who has enquired into the nature of things develops a different attitude. He comes to know that he is himself the source of all happiness, and so he has no attachment for the pleasures derived through the senses from the objective world
Knowing this, his mind naturally turns inwards into the Self. Otherwise, the mind cannot remain steady when it is pulled out by the distractions of the sense world
So, first of all, there should be a clear understanding of the ephemeral character of sense-pleasures and the pain caused by them
Me: But what if I still crave companionship? What if I miss deep, meaningful relationships?
lord Krishna: Relationships are a reflection of your relationship with yourself. When you experience yourself as whole, you will attract people who reflect that wholeness
“In this world, there are three kinds of people: the ones who want pleasure, the ones who are devoted to action, and the ones who seek knowledge.” (Gita 14.17)
sattvāt sañjāyate jñānaṁ rajaso lobha eva cha
pramāda-mohau tamaso bhavato ’jñānam eva cha
BG 14.17: From the mode of goodness arises knowledge, from the mode of passion arises greed, and from the mode of ignorance arise negligence and delusion. wisdom follows from sattva, and greed, undoubtedly, from rajas; likewise, obstinate error, stupor and also ignorance ensue from tamas
meaning…
Sattva guṇa gives rise to wisdom, which confers the ability to discriminate between right and wrong. It also pacifies the desires of the senses for gratification, and creates a concurrent feeling of happiness and contentment. People influenced by it are inclined toward intellectual pursuits and virtuous ideas. Thus, the mode of goodness promotes wise actions.
Rajo guṇa inflames the senses, and puts the mind out of control, sending it into a spin of ambitious desires. The living being is trapped by it and over-endeavors for wealth and pleasures that are meaningless from the perspective of the soul.
Tamo guṇa covers the living being with inertia and nescience. Shrouded in ignorance, a person performs wicked and impious deeds and bears consequent results
Me: So, to connect with others, I must first reconnect with myself?
lord Krishna: Precisely. The external world mirrors your internal state. When you find peace within, it flows outward
And never forget — you are never truly alone
“I am always with you, in every step of your journey.” (Gita 9.22)
ananyāśh chintayanto māṁ ye janāḥ paryupāsate
teṣhāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ yoga-kṣhemaṁ vahāmyaham
BG 9.22: the devotees, however, who, solely loving me, constantly think of me, and worship me selflessly, to those ever united in the thought with me, i bring full security and personally look after all the needs
meaning…
This is one of the most important verses in the Gita
This is the Lord’s promise of protection for the devotee. He takes upon Himself the responsibility of the devotee, who is ever united with Him
The Lord knows full well that His devotees have given their all to Him, and have nothing of their own. Such things as the devotee needs, are supplied by the Lord Himself, under all circumstances
Me (calming): That brings peace. Maybe connection isn’t something to search for, but something to realize
lord Krishna: Yes. Realize that you are always connected — to me, to yourself, and to all beings
🔹 Reflection Prompt for Readers:
Where have you been searching for connection outside of yourself?
What does it feel like to consider that connection may already be within you?
