THERE’S AN AMAZING HISTORY OF GARLIC IN INDIAN MYTHOLOGY
in indian mythology conveys the confusion that many experience in relation to this medicinal plant
at the time of samudra manthan, the churning of the ocean of milk – nectar or Amrit ( nectar of immortality ) was obtained from the ocean
lord vishnu disguised in his enchanting Mohini form began distributing nectar to the gods
seeing this, the demon rahu seated himself with the gods and received a sip of nectar
on coming to know about it, lord vishnu slaughtered the demon’s head with his sudarshan chakra ( discuss )

the nectar in the mouth of the demon fell on the ground and immediately manifested as garlic
so garlic is nectar, imbued with rejuvenated properties but it is also seen as Contaminated because it touched the mouth of a rakshasa ( demon )
garlic is a best rasayana ( rejuvenator ) but the brahmins do not consume it as it is born from the body of a demon ( rakshasa )
YET ANOTHER SHORT STORY OF GARLIC IN MYTHOLOGY SAYS
Lord indra’s wife did not conceive after a hundred years
lord indra consoled her and cajoled her to drink the nectar given by the lord
after drinking the nectar, she burped out some nectar which fell at an unholy place
indra told his wife, ” don’t worry, you will have children and the nectar you burped out will become a Rasayana but since it fell at a wrong location, it will have bad smell and Will not be used by brahmins.
on earth it will be known as lasuna ( garlic )

the part of the plant that is used is called rhizome.
it contains an active ingredient called GINGEROL which aids in efficient digestive process

in ayurveda, both fresh ( wet ) ginger and dry ginger are used as medicinal components in preparations like ayurvedic powders and rasayanas ( decoction )
vata is said to upset the digestive tracts so ginger has the properties to combat Excess vata present in gastro intestinal tract and stomach diseases
ginger components also helps in reducing swellings due to it’s hot and pungent nature .
it brings heat to the body and skin thus increasing blood circulation to the area and thus healing

4. OIL – SESAME OR MUSTARD OIL
IMPORTANCE OF OIL IN AYURVEDA
when the vata ( In ayurveda ) goes high in the body, it leads to blood circulation in the peripherals leading to issues like pain in the muscles, dry skin etc.
since the skin is the biggest organ of the body – it has the capacity to Absorb things it comes in contact with
so having oil massages of either sesame or mustard oil would feed the skin with the necessary ingredients which increases the blood circulation

as massage expands the blood vessels on the skin and gives nutrition Through the oils applied as well as through the blood which was not reaching the skin properly due to narrowed blood vessels
