not that i am the first person on the planet making it but i happen to make it off late and enjoying having it

STORY OF PRINCE MURAD AND THE MOONG DAL

there is a type of dal that has an interesting history and that is the moradabadi dal

it is made of moong dal

this dal first came into prominence when prince murad baksh ( the third son of shah jahan ) established the city of moradabad in 1625

prince murad was very fond of rajasthani toor dal just like his great grandfather akbar and he ordered his cooks to create something light yet satisfying

it was during these attempts that a cook just by chance discovered that cooking moong dal on slow flame resulted into a dish that is slightly sweet, smooth and just as flavorful as toor dal

this dal was served was served in a bowl made from dried betel nut leaves with a garnish of amchur ( dried mango powder ), Chopped onions and green chillies

it is said that prince murad liked the taste so much that he used to have it three times a day

and this is the history about the moradabadi dal

even today this dish is consumed as a snack, than the main course and is served with a variety of garnishes just like the way the cook had introduced the dish to prince murad

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED FOR MAKING JOWAR MOONG DAL DOSA

jowar … 1 cup

JOWAR MOONG DAL DOSA

whole moong dal …. 1 cup

JOWAR MOONG DAL DOSA

methi …. a small teaspoon

ginger 1 small piece

green chillies 2 nos.

curry leaves few

HOW TO MAKE THE HEALTHY DOSA

1. Wash the grains very nicely and soak it overnight

2. it is advisable to Soak the grains well before consuming for healthier reasons

3. basically it should be for 7 to 8 hours

4. next day morning grind it to a fine paste with required water along with Ginger and green chillies and few curry leaves

5. Pour it in a vessel and add required Salt to it

your dosa batter is ready to make

this does not require any fermentation

you can immediately start making the dosas

the remaining batter can be kept in fridge for about a week

ADDITIONAL TIPS REQUIRED FOR THE DOSA

1. You can use yellow moong or split moong dal instead of the whole moong dal

2. in the batter, you can add 2 tablespoon of rice flour for that crispy texture

3. you can replace the millets with ragi, little millet (sama) or barnyard millet

4. you can instantly start making dosas out of it. make crispy dosa on medium flame seasoning with oil or ghee

5. you can top it with any finely chopped vegetables or make simple dosa

6. have it with chutney of your choice or simply have it ghee or any dal. anything of your choice

7. since the dosa gives a satiety feeling soon, you will not tend to overeat. so it is Lighter on your tummy and your body

8. these dosa can be had at any of the day be it breakfast, lunch or dinner

9. the batter can stay for a Good full week
